Enterasys Electronics for Education Grant Program
Overview
Electronics for Education (E4E) is an application-based grant program designed to provide recipient schools with Enterasys switching, routing and wireless LAN equipment to be used for instructional/educational purposes in a laboratory/classroom environment. The E4E program is open to both public and private educational institutions, including individual schools and school districts as well as colleges and universities throughout North America. The goal is to help schools establish technology classes that enable students to get hands on experience with networking equipment and network operations. The E4E program will provide donation opportunities on a periodic basis, based upon equipment availability. There is an application process for schools to apply for the program and a volunteer selection committee will select winners from the pool of received applications. Winners will be required to sign a standard donation acceptance agreement as part of the award process.
Application Forms
Applications must be completed and received by 3pm Eastern (GMT -5) on December 10, 2010 via email to E4E@enterasys.com (use “application” as the email subject line). Please provide answers by typing directly into the document (Microsoft Word version preferred) and attaching the document to your email. You will receive an acknowledgement that your application was received.
Sample Equipment Lists
The goal is to provide a complement of networking gear commonly used in
enterprise company infrastructures, including both wired and wireless
connectivity, for students to use independently and as part of an
interconnected group of students, up to and including an entire class.
The following is a sample equipment list for both a wired and wireless
networking class of 24 students (your specific requirements may differ).
Wired Networking
IEEE standards-based, AC-powered Ethernet switches with VLAN capabilities and 12 to 48 10/100 Ethernet ports. Some of the switches may have layer 3 routing capabilities for use with class-wide topologies.
- (6) Layer 2 switches – small groups of students per switch
- (2) Layer 3 switches – interconnect student groups
- (2) Layer 3 switches/routers – interconnect entire classroom
Wireless Networking
802.11a/b/g thin/thick-mode access points and virtual controllers.
- (3) Access points – small groups of students per access point
- (1) Wireless virtual controller – students share virtual controller
- (2) Layer 3 switches – interconnect entire classroom switches
(Note: The layer 3 switches are only needed if requesting a wireless only package. If a combined wired/wireless package is being requested, a single pair of layer 3 switches is sufficient for the combined wired & wireless equipment package).
