Bahia State House of Representatives Reduces Repair Time to Seconds
The Bahia State House of Representatives – located in Salvador, Bahia, Brazil – has selected Enterasys products to replace its internal network infrastructure. The new Enterasys solution optimizes network connectivity and improves the institution's data reliability and security. 2500 users, 1800 access points, 850 workstations and 15 servers are all monitored 24/7 and segmented by sectors which can only be accessed by the authorized users for that area of the network.
Enterasys was selected following a request for proposals based on the strength of the technology and for offering the best cost-benefit ratio.
“Before the Enterasys implementation, our network maintained connectivity, but our infrastructure and security were obsolete,” said Sidinei Pires de Carvalho, who manages the State House’s security, management and administration. “The detection of network malfunctions or security incidents required a slow and manual process. For instance, location of a defective network connectivity board required three days, and our actions were based on our intuition. With our Enterasys solution, the system blocks the port and disconnects the root-cause machine from the network automatically — in a fraction of a second after the incident. Now we can say that we are safe from any kind of attack which might happen."
Enterasys solutions have made it possible for the Bahia State House’s IT team to protect their network, while the standards-based, open architecture approach has also guaranteed data availability to authorized users. With detailed control policies in place, Bahia can ensure that only the right users can access the right information from the right place at the right time.

Dedini Achieves Network Optimization, Security and Transparency of Processes
Brazil-based global manufacturer, Dedini S/A Industrias de Base, is leading the production of biodiesel, sugar, industrial machinery and consumer food and beverage goods in Latin America. With the goal of achieving total network control and visibility across their 9 Brazil facilities, including manufacturing plants and operational and commercial units, Dedini turned to Enterasys Secure Networks.
At the end of 2006, Dedini’s IT staff realized the need for a new infrastructure to support strong company growth due to the rising global demand for biofuel production. Challenged with an overloaded infrastructure backbone, as well as difficulties in managing all the network’s components, security incidents were becoming more frequent. The company’s LAN architecture was not segmented and could not scale to meet the growing number of applications and varying network services.
Through a network upgrade, the Enterasys solution has enabled Dedini to reduce their 3D file transfer time and quickly identify and respond to security events and errors on its network composed of 1700 access points, 168 switches, 28 servers and 7 routers – allowing for greater safety and transparency in the company's processes, as proven by an external audit.
“We chose Enterasys because they not only offered a better cost vs. benefit ratio, but also because they had the best integrated solution, meeting all the requirements our network project demanded,” said Robson Santiago, Dedini's IT Infrastructure Manager. “Enterasys products offered security, visibility and sustained growth.” Interoperability with Siemens manufacturing software, Dedini’s integration partner, was also a crucial factor for the selection.
