Enterasys Networks Inc. (NYSE: ETS), a leader in enterprise network solutions, today announced that its Dragon 5.0 IDS solution has been awarded finalist status by Network Computing, a CMP Media LLC magazine, for a 2002 Well-Connected Award in the category of Intrusion Detection Systems (IDS). The product was selected for its ability to provide high-speed sensors to detect suspicious activity, forensic data to determine the impact of network attacks, and the scalability to deploy and manage large numbers of sensors without negatively affecting the operation of large networks.
Being chosen by
Network Computing
as a finalist for its industry-recognized Well-Connected Awards is a great achievement, said Mads Lillelund, chief marketing officer at Enterasys Networks. Coming on the heels of winning
Network Computing
's Editor's Choice Award in August, this is truly a testament to Dragon's ability to deliver scalable security solutions for the enterprise.
This year, the winners of the
Network Computing
Well-Connected Awards will be revealed at a gala event held on the evening before one of the industry's largest trade shows, NetWorld+Interop 2002 Las Vegas. All finalists will be highlighted in the May 13th issue of Network Computing and also on

No other annual awards program in the industry uses hands-on evaluations to choose its winners, said Fritz Nelson, Publisher of CMP's
Network Computing
. Our editors worked at length to research and test the best offerings in the enterprise arena. Being named a Well-Connected Award Finalist is a true reflection of product quality rather than merely product popularity or marketing effectiveness.
Enterasys' Dragon product line provides a complete intrusion detection solution for the enterprise. Dragon Sensor, the industry leader in monitoring high-bandwidth networks, detects attacks as they cross the network. Dragon Squire monitors individual systems and extends the detection boundary by its ability to monitor mission-critical applications and integrate with third-party firewalls. This combination of network and host-based detection is leveraged in Dragon Server, where events across the entire infrastructure can be monitored and correlated in real time. In addition, Dragon Server's web-based management and reporting tools keep the cost of ownership down with features such as automated signature updates and group-based management. The Dragon technologies combined with a highly scalable architecture meet the challenges that enterprises face in securing and monitoring today's complicated IT infrastructures.
