ROCHESTER, NH -- January 9, 2001--Enterasys NetworksTM, a leader in enterprise networking, today announced the new X-Pedition ER16 backbone routing platform. Designed to meet the increase in demand on the enterprise core backbone, the X-Pedition ER16 provides outstanding capacity, performance and a complete set of application services, enabling corporate networks and e-businesses to optimize and control their networks to meet critical business goals. The ER16 delivers four times the Gigabit routing capacity as Enterasys' current routing offerings, and provides a comprehensive set of advanced application services, including traffic prioritization, traffic shaping, multilayer security, application load balancing, application content verification and high availability. These advanced services provide critical control of business-centric applications such as enterprise resource planning (ERP), SAP, database, e-commerce, multimedia, and converged voice, video and data.

In addition, Enterasys Networks has rebranded its entire routing line of X-Pedition, including the SmartSwitch Router (SSR) 8600, SSR 8000, SSR 2100 and SSR 2000. These products will now be branded as X-Pedition 8600, X-Pedition 8000, X-Pedition 2100 and X-Pedition 2000. For ease of use, the ER16 utilizes the same firmware set as all other X-Pedition routers, providing consistency in feature sets across the entire product line.

With 16 slots, up to 128 Gbps of non-blocking switch fabric, support for up to 128 Gigabit Ethernet ports or up to 460 10/100 ports, and more than 4 million Layer 4 application traffic flows, the ER 16 provides the capacity needed for enterprise LAN, WAN or campus backbone infrastructures. Additionally, the ER 16 is designed to scale to deliver future, high-capacity technologies such as 10 Gigabit Ethernet and Packet over SONET.
