ROCHESTER, NH -- October 17, 2001--Enterasys Networks Inc. will showcase major enhancements to its AuroreanTM VPN (Virtual Private Network) product family at VPNcon Fall 2001. Additionally, Enterasys will demonstrate the seamless interoperability of Enterasys’ VPN and User Personalized Networking technologies with Microsoft’s Enterprise class server environments.

Enterasys will be demonstrating Aurorean VPN’s support for the Layer 2 Tunneling Protocol over IP Security (L2TP/IPSec) protocol suite that ships with the Microsoft Windows XP and Windows 2000 operating systems. Enterasys will also showcase integration of Extensible Authentication Protocol (EAP) and Microsoft Certificate Authority (CA) into its solutions. These technologies allow users to readily integrate two factor authentication and Public Key Cryptography (PKI) into their VPN environment. Enterasys and Microsoft conducted interoperability testing together to ensure customers deploying these operating systems will be able to create L2TP/IPSec VPN tunnels to Aurorean Tunnel Servers without the need for a separate VPN client application.

Another featured demonstration will focus on “single sign-on” capability for VPN and Wireless LAN users via 802.1X wireless authentication. By using a Digital Certificate stored on a Smart Card, the same credentials can be used for both wireless and VPN authentication.

“Standards let customers build interoperable solutions that integrate well into the Windows environment. L2TP/IPSec is the only IETF standard for remote access VPN, as is EAP for strong authentication,” said Ron Cully, Group Program Manager at Microsoft. “Microsoft is pleased to see Enterasys’ commitment to implementing these standards that are integral to Windows 2000 and Windows XP.”

Ben McLeod, Director of Product Marketing for VPN & Security at Enterasys Networks added, “The integration of key Microsoft security technologies with our Aurorean VPN enables us to deliver VPN solutions featuring seamless integration with Microsoft’s enterprise class operating system environments, including the new Microsoft Windows XP, as well as state-of-the-art security and authentication technologies.”

The entire suite of Enterasys’ VPN products, including the recently introduced ANG1105 and the new NetSight Gateway Monitoring Tool, will be featured in the booth. A SOHO (small office/home office) VPN Gateway, the ANG1105 features a 4 port, 10/100 Ethernet Switch and VPN acceleration. Enterasys’ new NetSight Gateway Monitoring Tool is a web-based application that provides centralized management for large deployments of remote VPN gateways. It allows network administrators to provide remote firmware updates, centralized SNMP monitoring, and provides an auto-discovery feature for simplified deployment.

Representing the next step in the evolution in virtual private networking, the Aurorean Virtual Network enables Enterasys Networks to uniquely address the management and security issues that enterprises face as they extend their networks to connect users, applications and systems around the globe. On Wednesday, October 17th show attendees can learn how to determine the core requirements of an enterprise-class VPN solution and develop a deployment strategy for administering large and diverse user communities. The workshop, entitled “Building Your VPN Solution” will be presented by Robert Crawson, a senior systems engineer at Enterasys.

VPNcon Fall 2001 Conference and Exhibition is a prime venue where VPN vendors meet with customers, service providers, integrators, and VAR’s interested in the latest developments in VPN technologies, products, and services. VPNcon Fall 2001 is being held October 15-18, 2001 at the Hilton Alexandria Mark Center in Alexandria, Virginia.
