ANDOVER, MA-- April 15, 2003--Enterasys Networks Inc. (NYSE: ETS), a global provider of Business Driven NetworksTM for enterprise customers, today unveiled additional security and management features for the XSR-1800 family of remote office routers. These high-performance routers, which solve the security and connectivity challenges specific to branch offices, now feature an enterprise-strength firewall feature set with powerful new system management tools to deliver the highest levels of network security to branch offices in a single, integrated device.
“With the addition of a stateful, policy managed firewall, Enterasys further extends the reach of its enterprise product portfolio,” said Joel Conover, Principal Analyst at Current Analysis. “The XSR router platform reinforces Enterasys’ commitment to delivering end-to-end solutions that focus on secure, policy managed solutions for the enterprise.”
Enterasys Networks’ XSR-1800 series Security Routers solve the security and connectivity challenges for enterprise branch offices. These products combine a rich suite of IP router features, a broad range of WAN interfaces, remote access and site-to-site Virtual Private Networking. All versions ship with dual 10/100 LAN interfaces, IPSec VPN Acceleration hardware and configurable WAN options. Router and security performance is blazingly fast – in independent tests the Tolly the XSR-1850 model was rated at more than 45k PPS.
“Security continues to be a top concern among our customers, especially those with remote sites. By adding the Firewall feature set to the XSR-1800 line of routers, Enterasys has raised the bar for security features for branch office routers,” said Peter Jensen, senior vice president of Pioneer-Standard Electronics. “This new offering complements the XSR's broad range of features and is a great addition to our comprehensive portfolio of security solutions.”
Now, customers can equip their XSR-1800 Security Router with enterprise class Policy-Managed Firewalling. The XSR-1800 series Firewall feature set includes all the features of a standalone firewall appliance, including stateful packet inspection, Application Level Gateways, smart service filtering and blocking, and Denial Of Service (DOS) attack protection. Fast performance and minimal CPU overhead are assured because stateful inspection is implemented in the kernel.
Enterasys is also announcing the new NetSight Atlas Router Services Manager – a powerful management application that can quickly define and configure Firewall policies and rules in an easy to use graphical format. The new NetSight application can also dynamically apply policies to logical interfaces across multiple XSR-1800 devices with a single action, which helps to save time and reduce costs for busy IT staffs. NetSight Atlas Router Services Manager uses a powerful, intuitive Graphical User Interface so even customers lacking extensive firewalling expertise can rapidly and easily perform device management to configure firewall parameters. Users can set firewall policies, filter definitions, and network and service objects for Enterasys’ XSR-1800 Security Routers, adding extended flexibility to the router’s secure connectivity and market-leading performance.
“Corporations are becoming increasingly geographically dispersed with critical information and key personnel situated at remote offices. This trend, while enhancing productivity, significantly increases the threat profile for the entire organization. Distributed, “defense-in-depth” firewalling is the best practice approach to protect these geographically dispersed resources,” said Bill Naas, Product Line Manager of the Routing Business Unit at Enterasys Networks. “The new Firewall feature set for Enterasys’ XSR-1800 series routers delivers the highest level of security with policy based management and high throughput performance.”
The Enterasys XSR-1800 with Policy-Managed Firewall feature set is available immediately, and the NetSight Atlas Router Services Manager will be available in May 2003. In addition, new firewall feature set can be added as a firmware upgrade to existing routers. For more information, visit http://www.enterasys.com.
