Course Overview: Students will be introduced to technologies encompassing IPv6 including topics on IP Addressing structure and schemes, Stateful vs. Stateless addressing, managing devices within a mixed IPv4 and IPv6 environment, as well as tunneling and security concepts. In addition, students will also learn methods for transitioning from an IPv4 environment to IPv6 including using Enterasys NMS Policy Manager for managing IPv6 specific roles and rules.

Who Should Attend: Network & Security Managers, Architects, and Systems Integrators

Course Prerequisite: Due to the nature of this course, Enterasys recommends that students should have previous hands-on experience with routing technologies as well as having attended the following courses prior to enrollment: Networking Fundamentals and Routing

Course Objectives: Upon completion of this course, students will have gained the understanding and working knowledge of IPv6 including topics of transitioning from a v4 network to a v6 network, managing a v6 network and security topics.

Course Agenda:
  • Overview and introduction to IPv6 including IPv6 addressing, structure, schemes, and types.
  • Discussions and hands-on labs focused on Stateful vs. Stateless address configurations, as well as managing Enterasys devices using IPv6. In addition, Neighbor Discovery and Multicast Listener Discovery components will also be covered.
  • Overview and implementation of IPv6 routing capabilities including operating in a mixed IPv4 and IPv6 environment, using IPSEC encryption, tunneling IPv6 over a IPv4 environment and utilizing IPv6 specific rules with Enterasys NMS Policy Manager.
  • Topics regarding IPv6 transition technologies, deployments, and security parameters will also be discussed.

Recommended Next Course (s): Network Access Control (NAC), Policy, Advanced Routing

Certification Training: IPv6 Networking is recommended for the IPv6 Networking Specialist examination. All courses listed are offered by Enterasys and our Enterasys Certified Instructor (ECI) partner network.

For Managers: IPv6 Networking is targeted for those students who are tasked with the conversion of an existing IPv4 network, or building and managing an IPv6 network utilizing Enterasys solutions. Ideal candidates for the IPv6 Networking course are Network Security Admin’s / Architects or Systems Integration Specialists who are tasked with understanding the capabilities and the transition technologies of IPv6.
