Enterasys allows guests in its conference rooms to access the Internet while protecting the Enterasys network itself. While competitive networks offer some guest privileges by putting all guests into a virtual LAN (VLAN), the VLAN separates these guest users from the network--which leaves the guests vulnerable to attack from other. For example, if on a given day, visitors from HP, IBM, and Dell all visited the same conference facilities, placing them in the same VLAN could be aiding and abetting a security breach. Enterasys guest networking, on the other hand, personalizes which network services are available to each user, eliminating the need for a VLAN.
