Bolton Hospital
Bolton Hospital is a large acute hospital trust based in the northwest section of England. The hospital operates from three sites and provides a full range of health care services to a local population of approximately 300,000. In order to reduce waiting lists and improve patient care, Bolton Hospital needed to enhance interdepartmental communications. The organization supports 100 general practitioner (GP) practices and wanted to give these GPs full access to an integrated network and central booking system. This required the integration of independent systems in order to facilitate access to multiple knowledge bases. The solution included X-Pedition(TM) switch routers, Vertical Horizon(TM) switches, and services from ICC Communications. These allowed Bolton to consolidate the Trust's entire system to support 2,000 end users on a Gigabit Ethernet backbone.
