E3000 Jumper and Switch Settings

HELP: Board View , Hardware Tables.

The E3000 DNI card has the following jumper and switch settings.

Setting The Port Select Switch

The Port Select Switch determines whether the media of AUI port will be used to connect the PC to the network. This switch should be set before the DNI card is installed in the PC. The board is labeled by the switch with AUI for the AUI port; and TP (twisted pair), FO (fiber optic), or COAX (coaxial) for the media port.

Figure 1. Port Select Switch

Set the switch as follows:

Move the switch toward the bus connector to select the media interface (default setting). This setting is labeled with TP for twisted pair, or FO for fiber optic.

Move the switch away from the bus connector to select the AUI interface. This setting is labeled as AUI.

Setting The Signal Quality Error (SQE) Switch

The Signal Quality Error (SQE) Test Switch allow you to enable or disable the SQE ("hearbeat") internal test function on the DNI Card. You generally disable the SQE, unless you are checking the validity of the SQE Test. The SQE Test signal does not leave the card. If the DNI Card is attached to the network through the AUI port, the SQE should be set in the external transceiver. The SQE is disabled when the card is shipped.

Figure 2. The SQE Switch

Set the SQE Switch as follows:

To disable the SQE test function, move the switch away from the ports (default setting) ot the OFF position.

To enable the SQE test function, move the switch toward the ports to the ON setting.

Setting The Internal Transceiver Power Select Jumper

The E3020/-X coaxial cards each have an Internal Transceiver Power Select Jumper, JP2, that must be set to one of two possible settings. This jumper controls a DC converter on the card that supplies power when the BNC port is used. When the BNC port is used, the converter must be turned on. When the AUI port is used, the converter must be turned off. See the figure below.

Figure 3. Internal Transceiver Power Select Jumper

Set the jumper (Figure 3) as follows:

Place a shunt over pins 1 and 2 if the AUI port will be used.

Place a shunt over pins 2 and 3 if the NBC port will be used.
